Thoughts On… Abundant Salvation To Believers

It should be among our greatest desires each day to draw near to God. Scripture says, “Draw near unto God and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8(a)).

Over the past few weeks some friends and I have been studying Scripture. Our hearts are in the right place, but for some reason we seem to be missing the mark. In our group we do not expect perfect agreement. At the same time our group should not expect disagreement over every “jot and tittle.”

One of my friends suggested our group “is missing the forest because of the trees.” He said, “We are given these words to show us the awesomeness of God.” My friend was bringing home the wholesomeness of the Full Counsel of God. “Shouldn’t we be (agape) at all that He shows us and for what He has done for us?”

My friend is right.

Thoughts on… Abundant Salvation for the Faithful.

God saves us. From what? The consequences of sin which is death. This death is not as simple as an end of human existence. This death is about eternal life and where that life is spent. One is alive and in the presence of God. The other is not.

God saves us into His presence by means of a perfect sacrifice.

Salvation is abundant to the faithful. There is a spiritual radiance that shines in them and through them.

Dan 12:1-3

At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book. And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.

“Those who are wise….”  By way of thorough instruction from God’s word and full appreciation for true doctrine these people “will shine.” These are the kinds of people who distinguish themselves by their willingness to obey God. These are the kinds of people who love unconditionally and who “practice what they preach.”

The Light in them burns brightly.

“Those who turn many to righteousness….” These many are those kinds of people who follow Christ’s command:

Mat 28:19

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

These are not pastors and elders alone. These are Believers that have taken God’s Word to heart. These are the kinds of people who feed their enemies, clothe the naked, care for orphans and widows, and nurse the sick. These are the kinds of people that pray diligently, frequently, constantly for their own repentance and for the repentance of others.

Jas 5:19, 20

My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

When we are gathered up on that Last Day will we “shine like the brightness above?” Or, shine like stars in heaven forever and ever?

1Co 15:40, 41

There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is of one kind, and the glory of the earthly is of another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.

My friend is right. God is awesome. He has made clear in His Word what it takes to have everlasting abundant salvation. He spells out clearly the kinds of lives His children should live. He makes it clear.

For me…I pray for His strength to be a light.

Do not lose sight of what He has given us.
