Thoughts On Psalms: In Your Anger Do Not Sin

Psalm 4:4,5
In your anger do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent. Selah
Offer right sacrifices and trust n the Lord.

We see this verse quoted in Ephesians 4:26, “In your anger do not sin.” It is written in Ephesians regarding believers. In this context David is addressing his enemies; the wicked unbelievers whose purpose is to cause David great harm.

With confidence, even boldness, David alerts his enemies to the harm that will befall them if their anger overflows to violence. He is encouraging his enemies to search their hearts and consider the arrogance and stupidity of fighting against God!

There are people in our lives who spit into the wind with angry outbursts. Today is a good day to caution them about railing against our Lord.

This is also a good day to consider searching our own hearts and asking the Holy Spirit to come along side us and lead us to the same kind of confidence David showed.

Justice, true justice, is a product of knowing God. Make righteous sacrifices to God. Be just in your thoughts, words and deeds. Trust God to deliver.

Be a blessing today.
