Many say, “Who will show us any good?”
Yahweh, let the light of your face shine on us. You have put gladness in my heart, more than when their grain and their new wine are increased. In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety.
This could be a scene of despair, but it isn’t. David is being oppressed and persecuted. There are many who want relief, but don’t know Who provides it. Folks in the world seek happiness, prosperity and well-being. They are looking for the good, but do not know on Whom they should depend. For all their effort they cannot shake the Oppressor.
We were like that once. Perhaps a remnant of that kind of thinking still exists in us. God has made it abundantly clear to each of us that in His Son we are bestowed wonderful blessings; chief among them is a one-to-one relationship with our Father through His Son. We have a Christ-filled life only because we know our Benefactor. “We love Him because He first loved us.”
David called out to God, “Let the light of your face shine upon us, O Lord.” He knew on Whom to call. So, too, do we! Let the Light that is Jesus Christ shine in your life.
There is no greater sense of ease and peace than to truly know your Father is watching over you. David’s heart was filled with joy; abundant joy. His joy was greater than that of his enemies whose silos were full and their vats were topped with new wine.
Let us not cling to worldly treasure. Let us not succumb to worldly pressure. Instead, let us praise God for He is our sufficiency! God loves us and has a plan that includes you and me. Be at peace. Be a blessing today.
