| Romans 5:9 — “Having now been justified by His blood…” There was a time when I thought mostly in terms of what had to be paid. Now, I see more clearly what has been given. In Christ, we are not brought near reluctantly, but willingly. What separates is overcome— not by our effort, but by His love. “Nothing but the blood.” |
I once walked a road of tally marks,
counting debts I thought were mine to carry.
Every step felt weighted,
as though the earth itself questioned my worth.
I chased peace like a distant lantern,
always just beyond reach,
until Your light broke over me
and showed that peace was never earned—
only given.
Now I see the world gentler.
Grace is not a ledger,
not a bill waiting to be paid,
but a gift placed quietly in my hands.
You drew me near without hesitation,
without testing my resolve or measuring my failures.
Your arms opened before I ever understood why,
and love—unhurried, unafraid—
closed the distance I could not cross.
What once stood between us
has fallen like old walls in a forgotten city.
Every barrier I built,
every fear that kept me outside,
crumbled at the sound of Your welcome.
Not by strength, not by proof,
but by mercy reaching farther
than my doubt ever dared.
You called me closer.
You made a way.
And now I stand inside the grace
I once tried so hard to deserve.
I am not the same—
hope has taken root where striving used to live.
Your name is the ground beneath my feet,
steady, unbroken.
And so I say it again,
with the quiet certainty of a soul made new:
It was nothing but the blood,
nothing but Your love,
that carried me home,
opened the way,
and made this heart finally whole.
