Refuge

Psalm 7:9-12 — Scripture never asks us to pretend danger isn’t real. The psalms are full of honest fear, real enemies, and nights that feel too long. But they also teach us something deeper: refuge is not denial — it’s direction. It’s choosing where to run, choosing whose arms to trust, choosing which voice to follow when the shadows grow tall. Psalm‑refuge is not escape from the battle; it is the presence of God within it. It is the shelter that doesn’t remove the storm but steadies the soul inside it. This poem reflects that truth: that fear may pursue, enemies may rise, and the road may shake beneath us — but the place we run determines the peace we find. Refuge is chosen, not imagined. It is the altar, the mercy, the center, the God who holds us when we cannot hold ourselves. This is not retreat. This is rescue. This is trust with direction. And this is the worship of a heart that knows where home is.

When the shadows stretch behind me
and the voices chase me down,
I won’t pretend the road is empty
or that fear can’t make a sound.
But there’s a place my feet remember
where the storm breaks, lies fall flat—
I’m not running from the trouble;
I’m running into where You’re at.

In You, I take refuge.
You’re the shelter I choose.
When the night is pursuing,
I hide my heart in You.
It’s not denial of the danger—
it’s the direction of my trust.
Where I run matters, Jesus,
so I run, I run, I run to Us.

If they tear like lions after me,
clawing at the peace You’ve given,
I won’t answer with pretending
like the fight is not my living.
There’s a fortress with my name on it—
not a fantasy, but promise kept.
Every footstep is confession:
this is where my soul finds rest.

In You, I take refuge.
You’re the shelter I choose.
When the night is pursuing,
I hide my heart in You.
It’s not denial of the danger—
it’s the direction of my trust.
Where I run matters, Jesus,
so I run, I run, I run to Us.

I could hide in my own making,
build a tower out of pride—
but it crumbles when they’re shaking
all the walls I fortify.
So I choose the ancient doorway
where Your mercy meets my pain—
not away from what’s before me,
but to You through wind and rain.

Again I say it: refuge is chosen,
not the absence of the war—
it’s the presence I run into
when I can’t run anymore.
You’re not escape; You’re my center.
You’re not absence; You’re my road.
Where I run matters, Father—
so I run into Your hold.

If they rise to tear and scatter,
let them find me on my knees
in the shadow of the altar
where the hunted soul finds peace.
This is not retreat; it’s rescue—
not denial, but resolve.

I’m not lost inside the danger;
I’m found in You alone.

In You, I take refuge.
You’re the shelter I choose.
When the night is pursuing,
I hide my heart in You.

It’s not denial of the danger—
it’s the direction of my trust.
Where I run matters, Jesus,
so I run, I run, I run to Us.

Where I run matters…
Be a blessing today…
I run to You.
