What Is Man?

Psalm 8:3–4  invites us to pause and look upward. When we see the vastness of creation—the stars, the moon, the sweep of the heavens—we are reminded of how small we are and how great God is. Yet the wonder of this psalm is not our smallness; it is God’s attention. The God who shaped galaxies thinks of us, knows us, calls us, and crowns us with His grace. This poem is a reflection of that awe: that in all the immensity of His world, He remembers us. And because He remembers us, our lives become a way to bless Him in return.

When I see the stars above,
moon and sky Your hands have made,
all creation stretching wide
in its beauty and its weight—
still You look on us with love,
still You call us by our name.
What is man, that You are mindful?
Yet You hold us just the same.

What is man, that You think of him?
Still Your mercy draws us near.
In the vastness of creation,
You remind us we are Yours.
We are seen, we are known,
every moment, every day.
What is man, that You think of him?
Let our lives be blessing today.

You have searched the hidden heart—
every shadow, every fear.
Nothing in us is unseen,
yet Your kindness keeps us near.
In the greatness of Your world,
in the wonder of Your ways,
You remember we are dust,
yet You crown us with Your grace.

What is man, that You think of him?
Still Your mercy draws us near.
In the vastness of creation,
You remind us we are Yours.
We are seen, we are known,
every moment, every day.
What is man, that You think of him?
Let our lives be blessing today.

You have set Your glory high,
yet You bend to hear our cry.
All the heavens sing Your name,
still You call us “child” again.
What a wonder, what a grace—
to be held in such a place.
Lord of all eternity,
still You think of even me.

So let every breath be praise,
every step a faithful way.
Let the work of all our days
show the goodness of Your name.
In the smallness of our lives,
in the moments that You give—
what is man, that You are mindful?
Teach us, Lord, in You to live.

What is man, that You think of him?
Still Your mercy draws us near.
In the vastness of creation,
You remind us we are Yours.
We are seen, we are known,
every moment, every day.
What is man, that You think of him?
Let our lives be blessing today.
