Be Still

Psalm 4:4–5 There are moments when the fire rises too quickly — when words sharpen before wisdom speaks. In those moments, the Spirit whispers the same truth the psalmist heard: “Be still.” Not silent in fear, but quiet in trust. Stillness is not the absence of feeling; it is the sanctifying of it. Anger, grief, and longing are not enemies of faith — they are invitations to bring the heart honestly before God. The bed becomes an altar, the pause becomes prayer. In the hush, the Lord uncovers what haste hides. He teaches that peace is not found in control, but in surrender. To be still is to stand in the tension without breaking, to wait without retreating, to listen until truth rises above noise. It is courage disguised as calm. It is worship that breathes instead of shouts. And when the wave passes, what remains is gentleness — the kind that blesses others because it has first been blessed. The still heart becomes a witness: not to its own restraint, but to the peace of the One who holds it. So linger. Let the trembling settle. Let the truth come near. In the silence, He is not absent — He is shaping you to be still.

When fire rises in me and
words rush to my tongue,
I remember what You whispered
when the day was nearly done:
there is room for honest feeling,
but not for anger’s reign.

So I lay my heart before You
in the quiet of my bed—
every thought that storms within,
 every fear I left unsaid.
In stillness You uncover
what my hurried soul can’t see.

Be still… let trembling settle.
Be still… let truth draw near.
In the pause, I find Your presence;
in the silence, I can hear.
Feeling deeply isn’t danger—
what I choose to do is real.
So I breathe, and I trust,
and I learn to be still.

There is strength in gentle waiting,
courage in restraint—
not weakness, but a wisdom
the restless world can’t paint.
And the blessing You have given
is the blessing I can give.

Teach my heart to linger
when the moment pulls me fast;
hold me steady in the tension
till the rising wave has passed.
Let my life become a witness
to the peace that You reveal.
