Still I Believe

Psalm 13:1-2
There are times when prayer does not come easily. We know the words we are supposed to say. We know that God is faithful. We know the promises. Yet there are seasons when what we know and what we feel seem very far apart.

Psalm 13 gives us permission to speak from that place.

David does not hide his frustration or soften his question. He asks, “How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever?” Those are not the words of a man who has stopped believing. They are the words of a man who believes enough to keep talking to God.

That distinction matters.

Faith is not pretending everything is well when it isn’t. Faith can be sitting in the darkness and still turning toward God. Sometimes the most sincere prayer we have is simply, “Lord, I don’t understand.”

And God can receive that prayer. If you are waiting today, for an answer, for healing, for reconciliation, for direction, or simply for the weight of something to become lighter, you do not have to manufacture cheerful words for God. Bring Him what is actually in your heart.

Your questions do not frighten Him. Your weariness does not offend Him. And His silence does not mean His absence.

Perhaps that is one of the quiet lessons of Psalm 13: the person asking, “How long?” is still speaking to God. Sometimes that is what faith looks like.

Keep speaking. Keep turning toward Him.

And when you cannot find anything else to say, even “How long, Lord?” is still a prayer.

Be a blessing today.

How long, Lord?
The words rise slowly,
worn thin by waiting,
carried on a prayer
I have prayed before.

How long
when morning comes
and nothing has changed,
when yesterday’s burden
is waiting beside the bed?

I know You are there.
That is why I call.

But silence has a weight,
and waiting has a way
of making a moment
feel like forever.

So I will not polish my prayer.
I will not dress my sorrow
in borrowed praise
or pretend the darkness
does not trouble me.

I will bring You the truth.

I am tired.
I am afraid.
I do not understand
why You have not answered.

How long, Lord?

Perhaps even these words
are an act of faith,
for I still say Lord.
I still turn toward You.
I still believe there is Someone
on the other side of my cry.

And if today
all I have is the question,
then I will give You the question.

I will wait here,
between silence and answer,
trusting that being unheard
is not the same
as being forgotten.

For even in the quiet,
You are still God.

And I am still Yours.

Be a blessing today.
