How Long O’ Lord

Psalm 6:1–3 is one of Scripture’s most honest prayers. It doesn’t hide the ache, the exhaustion, or the fear of waiting. It shows us a heart worn thin, a spirit stretched by sorrow, and a believer who still turns toward God even when the night feels long. The beauty of this psalm is not in its pain but in its trust — the quiet confidence that God hears, God sees, and God will heal in His time. This poem reflects that journey: the plea for mercy, the confession of hidden burdens, the endurance of waiting, and the shared cry for others who suffer too. It is a reminder that even in the longest nights, God is near, shaping us, strengthening us, and holding us until the dawn comes.
The image shows exhaustion yet seeks relief from above. It's an appeal to heaven.

O Lord, do not rebuke me now
in anger or in wrath.
I feel the weight of all I’ve done—
 it has brought me low at last.
Be merciful, I’m fading here;
my strength is almost gone.
My body aches, my spirit breaks—
I don’t know how long.

There are things I’ve left undone,
things I’ve held inside—
hidden faults and silent pride
I could no longer hide.
You already know it all,
every secret, every scar;
still I come and lay it down,
just as broken as I am.

How long, O Lord,
how long will this pain remain?
How long, O Lord,
how long till You heal again?
I will wait, I will trust
even through the night.
How long, O Lord,
how long till You make it right.

In the waiting, teach my heart
there is purpose in the pain.
You are forming something deep
through the sorrow and the strain.
If this road must take its time,
still I will not turn away—
give me strength to carry on,
give me grace for one more day.

How long, O Lord,
how long will this pain remain?
How long, O Lord,
how long till You heal again?
I will wait, I will trust
even through the night.
How long, O Lord,
how long till You make it right.

There are others suffering too,
fighting battles I can’t see.
Let me stand and pray with them
as You are standing here with me.
Cleanse our hearts and make us new;
let no shadow linger on.
In Your mercy, hear our cry—
bring us healing, bring us home.

Search me, Lord, and make me clean;
leave no hidden place unseen.
In Your mercy, I remain
though I walk this road of pain.
Search me, Lord, and make me whole;
 heal my body, heal my soul.
Be a blessing through my days,
even in the waiting place.

How long, O Lord,
how long will this pain remain?
How long, O Lord,
how long till You heal again?
I will wait, I will trust
even through the night.
How long, O Lord,
how long till You make it right.
